Xiaomi has issued an important warning about the Redmi Note 8 Pro in regard to the current MIUI 12 global stable beta update rollout. The Chinese OEM is concerned that Redmi Note 8 Pro owners who are not part of the Mi Pilot program may damage their smartphones by installing the MIUI 12 update via another unofficial route.
Redmi Note 8 Pro owners who are not part of the Xiaomi Mi Pilot program should not install the MIUI 12 global stable beta update that has just been issued for the device. We recently reported about the MIUI 12 rollout for this particular popular smartphone, but it is only officially available to those who signed up for the Mi Pilot scheme. The warning, which was posted on the Arabic-language section of the Mi community forums, has been very blunt in advising non-Mi Pilot Redmi Note 8 Pro owners to resist the temptation of installing the MIUI 12 beta update.
Xiaomi has further warned that even though the rollout of the MIUI 12 global stable beta means some Redmi Note 8 Pro owners might consider installing it via unofficial methods there is the potential that doing so will permanently damage the smartphone. The Redmi Note 8 Pro has a MediaTek Helio G90T processor as opposed to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 found in the regular Redmi Note 8. Custom ROM support in regard to MediaTek parts is certainly not perceived to be on the same level as it is with Qualcomm’s chips.
In fact, Xiaomi has previously issued a warning about tampering with the firmware of the Redmi Note 8 Pro, to the extent that a different Arabic-language support article firmly stated that users would find their smartphone “completely damaged” if they utilized unofficial modification software. However, Xiaomi did encourage custom development for the Redmi Note 8 Pro by releasing the device’s kernel sources. There may be many Redmi Note 8 Pro owners out there who are eager to test out the numerous delights that MIUI 12 is bringing with it, but those who are not part of the Mi Pilot testing program would be better off heeding Xiaomi’s warning and remaining patient for the time being.
